Case Study: Piscinas de Marés
Álvaro Siza Vieira
Completed 1966
Leça da Palmeira, Matosinhos, Portugal
Siza was commissioned by the local municipality to provide a public swimming complex along the rocky Atlantic coast, where the rough ocean waters often made it too dangerous to swim. The natural topography of the coastal site is integral to the design of the structure.
